Born in Syracuse, NY where an inclination towards the arts was discovered at a young age. She started her education on the east coast in interior architecture but after studying a variety of disciplines discovered a passion working with metal.
Katrina ended up completing her Bachelors of Fine Arts at Oregon College of Arts & Crafts. Her achievements there led to a publication in “Metalsmith” magazine and soon after placement in a book titled Color on Metal.
Since then she has settled in the San Francisco Bay area and operates a small detail garden and design business while continuing to focus her creative energy on metalwork. Katrina’s recent studio work experience, which includes fabricating architectural details and elements, public art projects and landscape sculpture, along with her infatuation with steel have given her the chance to explore sculpture on a much larger scale than she was previously used to.
In her own work Katrina’s ambition is to integrate form with function in the objects she creates. Her intention is to create work that not only is aesthetically pleasing but also has purpose and an ornamental feel. Her background in jewelry, interior architecture, and gardening have infused her with a savvy sense of decoration and an eye for detail. Her work almost always includes color and patination, fine quality craftsmanship, and the idea that what is seen is usually much different than what is revealed.
